We build the past—for the future
In oktober 1996 a group of enterprising people decided to found Kolding Miniby, a project
to reconstruct Kolding, as it looked in the years between 1860 and 1870.
this period there were approximately
750 houses that are to be reconstructed on the scaleof 1:10.
Drawings and descriptions of the houses have been found in the government archives,
technical office and in books.
The completed town will cover about 3 acres!
We have you own brick works, which produces standard bricks, munkesten, (bricks about
50% larger) and roofing tiles.
In the carpentry shop we make the wooden house frames of teak wood, and there is a carpentry
shop for making windows and other necessary house details.
Opening times.
Minibyen is open for visitors Monday to Friday from 9.a.m. - 12.00 a.m.Firms societies and clubs, that would like to visit us in afternoons will always be welcome.

between 9.00-12.00 to make an appointment.Kolding Miniby:
Is an independentsoci. The economy is based on financial support fromother societies. Funds, sponsors, and of course, contributions from our guests and visitors.
At any given time, the society has between seventy and eighty members, semi-retired and
fully retired. Abouth half of which are active in the different building shops. Each member
comes and goes as he/she pleases, and decides in which workshop he/she works in.
The members, both actives and passive, pay a yearly contingent of 150,00. Which is only
used for internal social purposes.
What is Kolding Miniby:
We build the past, as a piece of cultural history for the enjoymentof both the builders and hopefully, coming generations.
Sct Jørgens Gård:
From mid 15th-century till the beginning of the 16th –century KoldingTown enjoyed much of the king’s attention.
Christian the 3
rd expanded Koldinghus in the years 1546—1558 and founded Sct. JørgensHospital ( today Sct. Jørgens Gård )
To construct Sct. Jørgens Gård, Which is the first of many bigger buildings that Kolding
Miniby has started to build, the following material was used, 14.000 bricks, 6.400 munkesten
and 18.000 roofink tiles. Underneath the top window a royal crovn can be seen, made
from a retired costoms officer’s cap (this returning to it’s right.
Koldinghus:The ruins of the castle are minibyens biggest building project. Abouth one million munkesten
will be used. Work on it began in the year 2000, and expected complete in 2004.
Christian the 7
th Was the last king to stay there, this during the English bombardment ofCopenhagen in 1807, before moving on to Rendsburg.
During the Napoleon war against England, Denmark allied with France, and in the year of
Christian the 7
th’sdeath, 1808, some 30.000 Spanish mercenaries crossed the Danish border toassist, some of them were billeted in the castle, a fatal error, as was later proved.
It was extremely cold in the mount of march that year, so the Spaniards piled as much fuel as
they could into the ovens and fireplaces of the castle, eventually causing a chimney in the
guardroom to catch fire! As the duty firemen had decided to ignore their duties that day, and
go home, a lot of time was wasted, and the fire spread quickly through the building.
All attempts to quench the fire proved fruitless, and Jutland’s last castle was laid waste.
Close to the ruin: There was once whitewashed, thatched cottage just in front of the castle. It
was built in the 1830’s for the new castle manager Cirovius. The cottage was demolished
abouth the turn of the century.
The future larger projects for the minibuilders are as follows:
The castle stables, Sct. Nicolai Church, and the old town hall, plus all the smaller houses!
There were about 750 lots between 1860 and 1870. Abouth 120 of the buildings are finished
and can be seen at the exhibition centre.
